How do I apply for the boiler upgrade scheme?
You cannot directly apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme as a homeowner. Instead, we can apply for the BUS on your behalf.
All grants given out through the BUS are paid to us, and then we give you a discount on your payment in the same amount.
The energy regulator, Ofgem, will get in touch with you to make sure that our application is valid in order to prevent installers from filing false claims under the programme.
Eligibility for a grant
Both household and non-domestic properties in England and Wales are eligible for the programme.
The scheme does not apply to newly constructed homes, with the exception of self-built homes that:
- developed primarily with the help of the original owner’s efforts or resources
- has never been held by a company or group
Grants are not offered to:
- Social housing, which includes shared ownership programmes, is any rented or owned property that is offered to individuals or families at a price below market value.
- properties that have already obtained government assistance or a commitment from an energy provider to buy a heat pump or build a biomass boiler.
EPC Eligibility
A property’s energy use is disclosed in an energy performance certificate (EPC), along with suggestions for how to lower energy consumption and save money. Every time you purchase, sell, or rent a property, it is necessary.
Prior to approving any grant request, we confirm that a property’s EPC:
- was issued within the last 10 years
- has no recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation
